The RIDE FOR RONNIE, Los Angeles, California, benefits the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable fund formed in honor of the legendary Ronnie James Dio, who lost his life to gastric cancer on May 16, 2010. The fund is dedicated to supporting research and education that furthers early detection, prevention and treatment of prostate, colon and gastric cancers. The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund has already raised close to $1 million in its short history. Monies raised have been committed to the cancer research work of the T. J. Martell Foundation for Cancer, AIDS and Leukemia Research, the gastric cancer research unit of the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where Ronnie was treated during the last six months of his life, and other cancer research projects. Our goal is to raise more than $100,000 at every annual event. The inaugural RIDE FOR RONNIE was held in May 2015 to commemorate the 5th anniversary of Ronnie’s passing, and was such a success that it will now be an annual event.
